Jumadil Akhir was born on August 8, 1973, in Banda Aceh. He completed his undergraduate studies in Forestry at the Pante Kulu School of Forestry, Banda Aceh, in 1999, and obtained a Master of Science degree in Forestry from IPB University (Bogor Agricultural University) in 2005. He worked at the Aceh Forestry Service in Banda Aceh from April 2006 to October 2016. Since October 2016, he has served as a lecturer in the Department of Forestry, Faculty of Agriculture, Syiah Kuala University. In 2019, he began a doctoral program in Tropical Silviculture at IPB University, completing it in 2024. During his doctoral studies, he conducted research on Dark Septate Endophyte (DSE) fungi. Research on these fungi is particularly compelling due to their potential as plant growth promoters—especially for forestry species—their ability to bind dyes found in textile industry waste, and their utility as agents for plant disease control. He continues to research various types of DSE fungi found in plant root tissues and examines the activity of the enzymes they produce—specifically lignolytic and cellulolytic enzymes—which enable the degradation of organic matter.
His research interests include peatland ecosystems, forest cultivation, mycorrhizae, and fungi.
